How to Feel More ‘In Control’ of Yourself, and Your Life

The uncomfortable feeling that can come when you feel out of control can feel really horrible.

People can feel out of control for a whole host of different reasons, from being in situations where they feel out of control (such as a fear of flying, a fear of spiders or a fear of heights), or where they are out of control of their own body or emotions (such as blushing, stuttering, shy bladder).

Sometimes people feel out of control because they’ve got something about themselves that they feel powerless to change, for example if they’re doing something that they’d rather not be doing (like overeating or smoking), or if they don’t feel able to do something that they’d like to do (like presentations of public speaking).

If that’s you, you’ll know how horrible that ‘out of control’ feeling can be.

But what if you could feel more in control…  how would that feel?

What if you could take those situations in life where you feel out of control, and change them, so that you feel in control instead?

What if you could feel more confident that given almost any situation, you could be more able to take charge of the situation, and decide for yourself how and what you think and feel in those situations?   How would that feel?

Well, part of the secret of feeling more in control, is taking charge of your thoughts…  if you can ‘supervise your thinking’, you can quickly feel far more in control of almost any situation.

If you can understand what really happens when you feel out of control, and feel able to do something about it, then you’ll be able to feel a lot better in those situations where you’ve felt out of control in the past.

The fact of the matter is, that changing things so that you feel far more in control, is actually a lot easier than you might think.

Techniques that you can use to feel more in control

In actual fact, if you can understand things like your ‘Personality Spectrum’, ‘The Effort / Benefit Balance’, the ‘Benefit Scales’ and 'The Divergence Technique' for example (all of which by the way, are fully explained in The LifeShaping Process), you’d be well on the way to feeling far more in control…  more in control of yourself, and more in control of your life.

Techniques such as the ‘Divergence Technique’ (again, a superb method described in The LifeShaping Process), have been developed over the years to help you feel more in control… to do the things that work, and save effort by avoiding those things that don’t work.

So if you feel out of control sometimes, and feel like you’d prefer to feel more in control, there definitely are ways to achieve it.

It just may be that you need someone to show you how!
