Changing Limiting Beliefs (CLB)
Article by Paul and Denise Douglass
Welcome to ‘Changing Limiting Beliefs’, from Avon Hypnotherapy, a wonderful technique that really could help you to change the way you think and feel about yourself, and your world.
What is the Changing Limiting Beliefs (CLB) Course?
Changing Limiting Beliefs is a short training course, which usually takes around 6 hours, and can help you to completely change the way you feel about yourself, about things that you do, and those things that happen around you.
You’ll learn how the astonishing power of the unconscious mind affects almost everything that you do in your day to day life.
If your unconscious mind has a tendency to feel ‘negative’ or ‘dismissive’ about something that you’re trying to do with your life, it can have a massive effect on your ability to achieve those things. It's like seeing yourself and your life through a huge, negative filter!
Take for example someone preparing to take their driving test… if that person has a negative expectation of the outcome… they expect they’re going to fail… they imagine all the things that could go wrong… they visualize those things going wrong… they worry for days about the test, and how they’re going to tell their friends and family that they’ve failed again… what do you think is likely to happen when that person gets to their test?
Over that time, they’ve come to accept their negative thinking, their unconscious mind will be able to see failure so strongly, and will prepare their mind, their body and their actions for that failure… it’s highly likely that the person will fail their test.
The unconscious mind has an incredible ability to take what it expects to happen, and make it happen.
So someone with negative thoughts (limiting beliefs), is highly likely to keep finding that things go wrong for them.
What Does Changing Limiting Beliefs (CLB) Course Do?
If your unconscious mind has a tendency to feel ‘positive’ about something that you’re trying to do with your life, it can have a massive positive effect on your ability to achieve those things.
To explain what the Changing Limiting Beliefs (CLB) Course does, let’s think again about that person who’s taking their driving test, but this time, let’s assume that we’ve helped them to re-train their thinking into positive, rather than negative.
This time, the person has a positive expectation of the outcome… they expect they’re going to pass the test… they imagine the wonderful feeling of being able to show their examiner just how well they can drive… they visualize those things going well… they look forward to the test, and how they’re going to tell their friends and family that they’ve passed… now this time, what do you think is likely to happen when that person gets to their test?
This time, it’s highly likely that the person will pass their test (and if they don’t, they won’t see it as a failure, they’ll see it as an opportunity to improve the parts that need a bit of work).
You can see how these same techniques could be applied to almost anything... making a speech at a wedding, making a presentation at work, getting over a fear of flying, overcoming depression... the list goes on.
What Can the Changing Limiting Beliefs (CLB) Course Help With?
This training course can help you to overcome almost any issue that is caused by any kind of negative thought, or limiting belief that you might have.
- Depressed people are often depressed because they ‘believe’ they are locked in their depression, helping that person to see that they can overcome their depression can help them greatly
- People with ME/PVFS/CFS can be helped to understand that their condition doesn’t have to control every part of their life any more
- People who find it difficult to stop smoking often find it difficult, because they believe they’re addicted to smoking, and so it’s going to be hard – Changing this limiting belief can really help that person to stop smoking more easily
- Someone with a lack of self confidence, or low self esteem can be helped to see themselves, and the things that they do, in a completely new light
- Making presentations and speeches can be far easier
- Relationship issues can often revolve around negative thoughts, or limiting beliefs, and learning to resolve these can really help
- The Changing Limiting Beliefs Course can be applied to almost any situation that is effected by negative thoughts, or limiting beliefs.

Dear Paul
Thanks for everything. I have really enjoyed our sessions, and have learned so much about myself.
I am now going away to put all you taught me into practice, I'll keep in touch, and let you know how I'm getting on.
Best Wishes, I will really miss you...

Hi Paul
I just wanted to thank you for the last couple of months ~ it has made so much difference to how I see myself and others and their negative talk and actions ~ its been like a total wake up.
When I came to you I had been so low and couldn't face the world ~ I found it tricky to even get out of bed in the morning ~ I would rather have just hidden from the world and myself and wanted to sleep so I didn't have to face anything. I knew I didn't want to feel the way I did and went along to my GP to ask about hypnotherapy as it had helped my daughter deal with her phobia and panic attacks. My doctor refused to talk about alternative therapy and told me the only way was to take anti depressant medication for at least 2 years or until I was in a relationship where a guy could give me self esteem and confidence to feel good about me ~ both of which I didn't want to do or thought was a right thing to do.
Along the way you have helped me to unlock and find the route of where my feelings, thoughts and the way I per-sieve the world have all come from and I have now released the guilt and negative feelings I have about me and now kinda think i'm ok... the more I am aware of my thoughts the more I can change the way I think and hopefully help others too.
I was awake by 6am this morning, got up and made a drink and put some washing on and now sending you this email ~ lots of positives already, so early in the morning :0)
Once again thank you for helping me to help myself ~ its made a big difference to me
Thank you
Lorraine :0)
I had vaginismus, something that I thought I suffered alone, so I googled it and found Denise; I thought hypnotherapy sounded interesting and worth trying.
I’m so glad I did because Denise has helped me to change my approach to problems (and life) entirely.
She introduced me to ‘Changing Limiting Beliefs’ which has helped me to take control of the problem, create manageable goals and alter my thinking.
As a result, I have overcome this issue. I’m so grateful to her.
Thanks for all your help,
Angharad
Going to be very strange not coming to see you every week to catch up and have a good old natter, never really felt like therapy, felt more like chatting to a friend, I suppose that means you are bloody good at your job! :)
Take Care
Debbie
I was very sceptical going in. I had a problem with erectile dysfunction, and was about ready to turn to the viagra. I wasn't convinced that simply talking about it would help. But it did: the process isn't a miracle cure (it takes work and a lot of thinking) but it helped tremendously. The problem has been resolved. Paul was a pleasure to deal with and talking about the issue with him never felt awkward or difficult. The mental techniques he proposed began to have an impact almost immediately once I'd gotten the hang of them.
Denise, thank you for your help and understanding, my appts. with you definitely opened my eyes as to how I view my life and I realise what I have to do to make the changes.
