Algiophobia, just like most phobias, come from an subconscious 'overprotection' mechanism. The fear of pain is caused by the mind over-estimating the danger caused by pain, believing that pain presents an actual threat, where in reality it may not.
Algiophobia can be caused by an 'unresolved' emotional conflict.
