Help with the Fear of Flying

Fear of flying (or aerophobia / aviophobia / aviaphobia / aviatophobia) affects roughly 1 in 5 people, and can be a real nuisance.
It might just mean that family holidays abroad are impossible, or it might make a desired career impossible if it involves flying during business trips.
The effect that a fear of flying will have on a person can vary greatly. At one end of the scale, it might simply be anxiety during certain parts of a flight.
At the other end, it might manifest itself as a full blown panic attack, which might even preclude them from just picking someone up from an airport.
Statistically, of course, flying is one of the safest modes of transport ... but to someone with a fear of flying, knowing this at a conscious level, is not enough, and they remain afraid, controlled by their fear of flying.
To the sufferer, it's their imagination that drives their fear, and no amount of 'rationalisation' can help this.
Most nervous flyers simply avoid flying entirely if they can, and this avoidance serves to reinforce the fear of flying phobia.
How to overcome the fear of flying
The one thing we'd like to say right from the start, is don't worry, you CAN overcome the fear of flying when you know how.
What we've found over the years, is that there are a few simple techniques that you can use to overcome the fear of flying.
Sometimes, people who have the fear of flying can often feel quite out of control and negative about things, because it can sometimes feel like they're stuck with it, and there's nothing that can be done about it (which of course there is!).
So the first thing to understand if you're looking to get over your the fear of flying, is that that there IS something that can be done, and even that in itself can help you feel a bit more in control right from the start.
Sometimes, it might feel like people are judging you negatively because of your the fear of flying, and so overcoming the fear of flying can also have the added bonus of feeling less judged.
So, as we say, don't worry... we've found over the years, that there are a few simple techniques that you can use to overcome the fear of flying... you CAN overcome the fear of flying when you know how... it just might be that you need someone to show you how!
